(MINNEAPOLS) – A local Special Olympic athlete and his team won a Gold medal at the USA Games on Thursday.
Charlie Wilson, of Milan, is a member of Special Olympics of Ripley-Ohio-Dearborn (ROD) and he qualified for a spot on Team Indiana’s Unified soccer squad.
Team Indiana faced District of Columbia on Thursday and won by a final score of 1-0.
Wilson has been an integral part of the team both as a goalkeeper and also assisted in a goal yesterday.
“Charlie had a great dribble for Jonathan’s goal, and then I said, ‘Charlie, I bet you wish you would have scored, but it honestly feels better to assist,’” coach William Lengacher said.
Wilson is one of four ROD athletes competing in Minnesota and you can read about the others by clicking here.
