(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A Batesville couple is engaged this morning after one of the most unique proposals you’ll see all year!
Ryan Dierckman and Annie Shane boarded a small aircraft piloted by Denny Koch at the Greensburg Airport on Wednesday night.
Annie was told that the flight was an opportunity to take photos of Ryan’s farm which is in the Rushville area.
“I knew something was different when Ryan was telling Denny where to turn and where to go while we were in the air,” Annie said.
It wouldn’t be long before Annie looked out of the window to see a message that would change her life.
“Will U Marry Me”
Annie didn’t hesitate to say yes in the small aircraft.
Ryan said, “My original plan was to get on one knee once we got back on the ground, but Annie said yes while we were on the plane and I put the ring on her finger.”
Both Ryan and Annie’s families were waiting to celebrate with them as the airplane landed in Greensburg.
“I got on one knee there to officially propose,” Ryan told The 812.
Ryan prepared for this proposal months in advance.
“We were planting wheat in October and while we had the drill out I decided to plant the letters Will U Marry Me,” Ryan said.
He added that Annie’s father, Dave Shane, assisted in the planting process back in the fall.
It stayed a secret until Wednesday night when Annie got the surprise of a lifetime.
“I just think it was so awesome and just a thoughtful moment, and I liked how he incorporated our families in the engagement,” Annie told The 812.

The couple is now planning their wedding while both giving their appreciation to Denny Koch for making it possible.
Ryan's advice to others who are planning a proposal is, “Don’t give up on ideas, put the effort in and don’t slack, just make it happen the way you want it to.”
