Milan names boy who lost parents in crash as honorary coach

(MILAN, Ind.) – The Milan basketball team will have a special coach this coming season. 

The Milan School Board approved 6-year-old Knight Walters as an Honorary boys basketball coach on Monday night. 

Knight and his brother survived a horrific crash that claimed the lives of their parents, Jordan and Sierra, on June 12. 

The family was traveling to a youth baseball game when another driver crossed the center line and struck their vehicle on State Road 350 in Dearborn County.

Despite being injured himself, Knight climbed out of the wrecked vehicle and sought help for his parents and younger brother.

46-year-old Steven Witte, of Moores Hill, has been arrested as prosecutors allege he had methamphetamine in his system at the time of the crash. 

The Milan Indians basketball season kicks off against South Decatur on December 11.
