Milan firefighters respond to 2 calls of wires down

(MILAN, Ind.) – It’s been a busy day for the Milan Fire Department on Tuesday.

The department responded around 9 a.m. to Ellis Street for a fallen tree that damaged power lines.

It has led to the road being closed between Main and Josephine streets. Duke Energy anticipates the road reopening around 5 p.m.

Milan firefighters were also called to the 1000 block of North State Road 101.

A semi with an oversized load hit communication wires which damaged the pole.

Southeastern REMC quickly responded as well and removed the line from the road.

“Before anybody starts bashing the trucking company it must be noted that the driver was following a pre determined route assigned to him by officials up in Indy,” the fire department said.

They added, “The driver and his escort stopped the load in the first available safe spot they could find and waited for responders to arrive and fully cooperate with the investigation.”

The State Road 101 incident has been resolved as of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
