MMH celebrates final baby born at original hospital

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A Greensburg couple welcomed the final baby to ever be born in the original Margaret Mary Health hospital.

Julie and Raymond Henry welcomed Tucker on Thursday who weighs 9 lbs. 4.4 oz. and measured 20.5 inches long.

Julie also serves as a labor and delivery nurse at MMH and described the experience as “very sentimental”

“She shared that while she had thought there was a chance she might deliver the first baby at the new hospital, she never considered that she could have the last baby born at the old one,” MMH said.

The original MMH hospital was opened in 1932 and by the Sisters of the Poor of St. Francis.

In 1967, the Sisters could no longer operate it so the John A. Hillenbrand Foundation purchased and donated the hospital to the community.

The hospital had two expansions over the years, once in 1944 and another in 1971, to meet the growing needs of the region.

On Saturday, Margaret Mary Health officially opened their new hospital. View photos of it here.
