MMH celebrates first twins born at original, new hospital

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Two sets of twins separated by 93 years share a special connection through Margaret Mary Health (MMH).

Al Hartman and Dorothy Flashpolar were the first set of twins born at the original MMH hospital on September 26, 1933. 

Hartman and Flaspohler now have 20 grandchildren, 64 grandchildren and more than 50 great-grandchildren.

MMH opened their new hospital on State Road 229 last month and it brings many new milestones and memories for regional families. 

Rikki Vann and Shane Ashcraft, of Rising Sun, welcomed fraternal twins Aria and Bella earlier this week. 

Aria and Bella are the first twins born at the new hospital and MMH brought both sets together to celebrate the coincidence on Hartman and Flaspohler's 93rd birthday.

“Bringing together the first twins born at our original hospital with the first twins born at our new hospital was an incredibly special moment. It connects our history with our future and reminds us what a privilege it is to care for generations of families in this community,” said MMH CEO Liz Leising.
