Mother, child escape house fire in Columbus

(COLUMBUS, Ind.) –  A mother and her young child escaped, however several cats were killed in a house fire in Columbus on Tuesday morning.


The house on Chestnut Street was fully-involved when firefighters arrived around 10 a.m. 


Columbus fire officials knocked down the fire and searched the home where no human occupants were located. 


“Firefighters found the woman and her child safe at a neighboring home. Both were uninjured,” the Columbus Fire Department said. 


The department did not specify how many cats perished in the blaze. Investigators are working to identify the cause of the fire.
