One team finishes as state finalist, other takes home trophy
(WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.) – Two North Decatur academic teams had incredible performances at the Indiana Academic Super Bowl State Championship this weekend.
The Social Studies team and the Interdisciplinary team both qualified for the state championship which was held at Purdue.
The North Decatur Social Studies team finishes as state finalists. Team members included Jessa Wagner, Breanna McBride, Lillian Gardner, Vanessa Apostolakos, Clletus Rennekemp, and Alexandria Apostolakos. The Social Studies team is coached by Ernie Ruble.
The Interdisciplinary team had to battle back from a deficit in the state championship round.
With 13 of 25 questions left, seniors Gabi Adams, Jenna Richardson and Breanna McBride and junior Jessa Wagner stormed back.
“At the beginning of the tie-break round, which were made up of the last 5 questions, North Decatur caught State Runner-up Hamilton High School, and did not miss another question,” said coach Ernie Ruble.
North Decatur was crowned as the Indiana Academic Superbowl Interdisciplinary 2025 State Champions!
Other members of the team included Alex Tebbe, Dorothy Robbins and Jacob Gearhart. Coaches include Molly Martin, Alli Hunnicutt, Deidre Laker, Molly Waechter, and Ernie Ruble.
