(COLUMBUS) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed two separate tornadoes touched down near Southeast Indiana on Wednesday night.
One touched down near I-65 in southern Bartholomew County and traveled northeast toward Hartsville before disappearing.
Officials say most of the damage is indicative of an EF-0 or EF-1 tornado.
“However, there were two areas of more intense damage consistent with a low-end EF-2 category tornado, and max wind speeds of 112 miles per hour,” officials said.
The Bartholomew County tornado damaged buildings, downed trees and utility poles, and threw debris anywhere from a quarter to a half-mile away.
NWS officials have also confirmed a tornado touchdown at CVG Airport in Boone County, Kentucky.
They confirmed it with video footage as the survey team is still assessing the path and intensity of the tornado.
The majority of Southeast Indiana was spared any significant damage during the storms, however there were tornado warnings issued in Decatur and Franklin counties.
