NWS shares details about Drewersburg tornado

(DREWERSBURG, Ind.) – The National Weather Service is providing more information about the tornado that touched down in Franklin County. 

Meteorologists believe it started along Seely Road near Cedar Grove and continued to pick up speed along Johnson Fork Road where it knocked down several trees. 

It then moved into Drewersburg where it reached its maximum wind speeds of 125 miles-per-hour which is an EF-2. 

“One single family home along Welsh Road had its roof completely lifted off with collapse of some exterior walls. A roof was also lifted off a home on Drewersburg Road,” NWS officials said. 

The tornado curved southeast as it moved onto State Line Road and then weakened to an EF-0 as it crossed over into Butler County, Ohio. 

“A few large tree limbs were knocked down on Schradin Road, and this is believed to be the end of the tornado,” officials added. 

Altogether, the tornado was on the ground for more than 5 miles and had a width of 400 yards, the NWS said.
