Police: Operation focused on people who have allegedly committed crimes

(SEYMOUR, Ind.) – Officials are sharing more details about the immigration raids that were conducted in Seymour on Monday.
The Seymour Police Department said the operation was initiated by the FBI and it resulted in 11 undocumented immigrants being arrested.
“These arrests targeted individuals who had already been charged with or convicted of serious violent crimes including drugs, child molesting, sexual battery, strangulation and domestic violence,” police said.
Some of those arrested have been previously deported more than once, police added.
Authorities also said that no arrests were conducted at schools or businesses and no children were removed from parents.
“This was not a sweep, nor did it involve schools or other sensitive locations. The focus was solely on removing dangerous offenders to protect the safety of our residents,” said Seymour Police Chief Greg O’Brien. “Public safety remains our top priority, and this operation reflects our ongoing commitment to keeping our neighborhoods safe.”
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was also involved in the operation.
