(RISING SUN, Ind.) – A new auxiliary gym has officially opened at Ohio County Elementary and Middle School.
It’s part of a three-year project that also included two new classrooms, a new handicap-accessible ramp, a vestibule and an eight-lane track
“The vestibule serves as the main entrance to the gym and also provides access to restrooms for softball games, as it connects to existing building restrooms,” Superintendent Branden Roeder said.
Principal Leanna Phillippe said the new auxiliary gym will be a benefit to both students and families.
“It means that we can now have events and practices at the same time, and I think it will allow the kids to not be here so late as there is extra gym space,” she said.
A ribbon cutting was held for the new gym during a Shiners middle school volleyball game on Tuesday night.
The architect was Lancer Associates the work was completed by Maxwell Construction.
As part of the upgrades, the main gym has also received new flooring as well.
