(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A unique discovery was found during the construction process in downtown Greensburg on Wednesday.
Crews were working on Washington Street and found an old security passageway that led to the basement of a building at 132 North Franklin County.
The City of Greensburg said passageways like this were used for storage, utility access, and deliveries for large buildings in the 19th and 20th centuries.

“Even with this discovery, residents are reminded that this area of Washington Street is still an active construction zone- we are getting closer to our September completion date, please stay away from construction equipment, mind the closures, and find an alternate route to navigate downtown,” City officials said.
The passageway was found by Schutte Excavating and the Greensburg Water Department.
