(LAUREL, Ind.) – The Laurel Elementary PTO held a community cookout this week.
It brought a large turnout of students and community members for a night of free activities, games and food.
The event was organized in an effort to bring joy to the community following the floods last month.
“We wanted to give families and community members a chance to come together, enjoy a meal, let the kids have fun, and simply spend time with one another,” said PTO president Kaleigh Peters.
Organizations that were in attendance included the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department, Neighborhood Health Clinic, Franklin county Library, Stayin Alive, Firefly Children & Family Alliance, Anthem, and SIEOC Head Start.
“Seeing so many people show up and support each other was incredibly special. Events like this remind us just how fortunate we are to be part of such a caring and supportive community,” Peters said.
She added that the community has a saying, “The current was strong, but our community was stronger.”
“And I think this cookout was a perfect example of that,” she said.
