(RISING SUN, Ind.) – The Rising Sun community kicked off the Summer League baseball and softball season in a unique way on Saturday.
The first-ever Rising Sun Opening Day and Ballpark Party served as a community event as well as a fundraiser.
It was organized by Rising Sun Main Street along with Abby Fox and Jamie Works.
A baseball-themed parade took place morning and community members got to vote on which float they liked most.
Each vote was $1 and the funds all went toward the little league for operational costs.
Organizer Abby Fox said the voting contest raised $2,165 and the 8U Softball team was the winning float. The second place finisher was 8U Baseball.
The parade was followed by a picnic on the riverfront, a baseball and softball gear swap, and vendors and games at the ball fields.
