(WEST HARISON, Ind.) – The Indiana State Police has identified two young women that were killed in a crash involving a semi and passenger vehicle in West Harrison early Sunday.
The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on U.S. 52 near the State Road 46 intersection.
Investigators say 22-year-old Kelis Manuel, of Fairfield, Ohio, was operating the car when she attempted to pass a pickup truck in a no passing zone and struck a semi head-on.
There were three other occupants in Manuel’s vehicle.
21-year-old Kimoa Manuel and 22-year-old Le’Marea Holmes, both of Cincinnati, were killed in the crash.
Kelis Manuel and the other occupant were rushed to Cincinnati area hospitals with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators believe alcohol, and possibly heavy rain, were factors in the crash. Toxicology tests are pending.
The semi driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
