(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A Kentucky man was arrested after allegedly driving over 100 miles-per-hour on I-74 during the slick road conditions on Sunday.
It all began around 4:30 p.m. when an off-duty Decatur County deputy noticed an eastbound vehicle that was west of Greensburg and traveling at a high-rate of speed.
It led New Point Marshal Andy Hadler to watch for the vehicle at the New Point exit.
Hadler spotted the car and said it was clocked at 109 miles-per-hour as it headed toward Batesville.
A brief pursuit occurred with the suspect’s vehicle reaching speeds of 118 mph, according to police.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop just west of Batesville and a brief standoff occurred, which led to all lanes of I-74 being closed for a few minutes due to the police incident.
The suspect was taken into custody and charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, Resisting Law Enforcement By Fleeing and Reckless Driving.
Hadler said a safe outcome for all involved was made possible by the collaboration among different agencies.
“I want to thank the Batesville Police Department, Indiana State Police, Decatur County Sheriff’s Office and Decatur County Communications for their assistance with this traffic stop and getting the subject in custody,” Hadler said.
Shortly after the incident, there were a handful of crashes on I-74 due to the hazardous road conditions which led to more closures and delays on the interstate last night.
