President Trump approves disaster assistance for flood, storm victims

(METAMORA, Ind.) — President Donald Trump has approved a major disaster declaration for several local counties. 

If you’re in Franklin, Dearborn, Fayette, Decatur, Rush, Union or Wayne counties, you are now possibly eligible for individual assistance from the federal government. 

Indiana Governor Mike Braun petitioned President Trump for the major disaster declaration last week, which was approved last night.

“This critical support will help Hoosiers recovering from historic storms and flooding. We’re grateful for this partnership as we work to rebuild, recover, and help communities get back on their feet," Governor Braun said.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security and FEMA will provide next steps on Wednesday. 

People who have sustained losses in these counties are being asked to first file claims with their insurance providers and then apply for assistance online here or by calling 1-800-621-3362. 

President Trump also approved a petition for repairs of disaster-damaged facilities in Franklin, Fayette and Wayne counties.
