Primary featured several close races, one decided by 1 vote

(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – The Primary Election featured several high profile races with some contests separated by just a few votes. Here's a look at how things turned out:

Sheriff Races

A lot of attention was on the Sheriff races as the Franklin, Dearborn, Switzerland and Jennings County offices are up for grabs due to term limits.

Longtime Franklin County deputy Adam Henson defeated fellow deputy Chris Maxie by a wider margin than some expected.

In Dearborn County, Chief Deputy Carl Pieczonka won the Primary against Jason Wyatt by 218 votes.

Clinton Earls cruised to an easy primary victory for Switzerland County Sheriff and so did Cody Lows who is vying for Jennings County Sheriff.

Prosecutor Races

Both Ripley County and Franklin County’s incumbent prosecutors were challenged in the Primary and both defeated their opponents by double digits.

Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel won by 18% while Franklin County Prosecutor Chris Huerkamp had a 34% victory.

Close Races

There were a handful of races that were decided by the thinnest of margins.

The Dearborn County Council District 2 race featured Tom Palmer and Steve Neal. It turned out that Palmer won by just 2 votes, defeating Neal 552-550.

The Dearborn County District 3 race was nearly just as close, as Doug Baker beat Chris Powell by a total of 18 votes.

Also in Dearborn County, the race for Miller Township Trustee was decided by just 31 votes, with Patricia Little defeating Kyle Luebbe.

In Jennings County, the race for Circuit Court Clerk was between Mary Dorsett Kilgore and Brenda King. Kilgore barely defeated King by just 11 votes.
