(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Community members are invited to the upcoming Raver Relays at Batesville High School.
The third annual track event will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 11.
Raver was a fixture in the Batesville community for than a half century.
He dedicated almost 60 years to coaching track and field and was also a Batesville High School teacher for 29 years. Younger people may best know Ron from his days as a radio sports announcer.
Ron passed away at the age of 82 in 2022 and his legacy continues in several ways including the Raver Relays.
It’s different from a regular track meet as most events will be relay-style. The races will be followed by team awards while they will also recognize one manager from each team.
“Coach Raver was a man with disabilities who had a lot of perseverance and dedication to the sport he was coaching. Because of his disabilities, one of the most important positions on his team was that of manager,” said organizers.
Organizers are hoping for a big crowd to honor Coach Raver, as everyone is invited.
If you would like to sponsor a relay or help in any manner, please reach out to Coach Lisa Gausman at: lgausman@batesville.k12.in.com
All profits from this event will go to the Ron Raver Scholarship Fund and Batesville High School Track and Field Program.
