Will take place at Liberty Park on October 4

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Registration is underway for the inaugural ‘Paws for a Purpose’ in Batesville on Saturday, October 4.
Organizers are encouraging participants who would like to order an event T-shirt to register by Monday, September 15.
‘Paws for a Purpose’ is a fundraiser where community members can walk their dogs at Liberty Park.
It’s in honor of 21-year-old Riley Duerstock who was killed by a drunk driver in northern Indiana in 2023. Riley was a nursing student who loved her dog, and all dogs.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the Riley Duerstock Nursing Scholarship, which benefits Batesville graduates who are studying nursing.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. and there will also be a pie auction, snow cones, puppy chow and a kindness counter craft for children.
Riley was an organ donor and the Indiana Donor Network along Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will also be at the event.
