Remembering Decatur County resident Edith Lecher

ree

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Today I am remembering Edith Lecher of Decatur County.

It was August 2021 and I was in Iowa for my cousin's wedding. A woman walked up and said, “I just love what you’re doing with The 812.”

It was the first time I was ever recognized for doing The 812.

I joked that I had to go to Iowa to get any recognition, but it was Edith from back home who recognized me.

Edith became one of the most loyal followers of The 812. I saw her name show up every night.

What I’ve learned this weekend is that she wasn’t just there for me – she was there for others.

I spoke with Sandy Volk on Sunday night, who lost her daughter and granddaughter due to a car crash last year.

“She sent me a card, and she stopped me outside of church, and asked if I was okay and she said she was still praying for me,” Volk told The 812.

We know Edith made a difference in many lives and she made a difference in mine.

I’ll never forget her walking up and saying “Are you Steven with The 812?”

It meant the world to me and I want her family to know that I am praying for you.

Edith married her husband 53 years ago and they had 11 children, 33 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She and her husband were members of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Decatur County.

Edith dedicated herself to daily prayer for her family and so many others and to supporting the Catholic Church and the pro-life cause in countless ways.

Her visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home, in Greensburg.
