National Guard soldier passes away after DC ambush

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – A National Guard soldier has passed away after being ambushed near the White House on Wednesday.
20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom was one of two West Virginia National Guard soldiers who were in Washington, DC, as part of a crime crackdown by the Trump administration. She passed away Thursday.
The other soldier has been identified as 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe and is believed to be in critical condition.
The suspect in the shooting has been identified as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal who is an Afghan national who immigrated to the United States in 2021.
Officials believe he traveled from Washington state to D.C. prior to the ambush.
President Donald Trump announced the addition of 500 more National Guardsmen to Washington following the ambush.
