Rep. Houchin visits Greendale apparel business to highlight tax cuts

(GREENDALE, Ind.) – Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-District 9) stopped by a Dearborn County small business on Wednesday to hear how its being impacted by federal legislation.

Legit Decisions Printing was created by Nick Gilbertson in 2022 and has grown from an in-home business to having their own storefront on U.S. 50 in Greendale.

The business specializes in custom-made, budget-friendly apparel for orders of all sizes. It has grown to now have a local and global customer base. 

Rep. Houchin spoke with Legit Printing about the Working Families Tax Cut Act (WFTCA) and the 20% small business tax deduction that became permanent with the legislation. 

“We want to talk with our small business owners, hear the impact of what the consequences would be if we had not extended that tax relief permanently, and to support them as job creators,” Rep. Houchin told The 812. 

Gilbertson described the permanent deduction as crucial for his small business. 

‘These huge companies get all kinds of deductions which is great, but when you are first starting out as a small business every penny counts. If that had gone away that would have realistically been one of our take-home pays for the year,” Gilberson said. 

He added, “The fact that there are people fighting for this tax relief is great to hear. Those huge businesses started somewhere as well, so to get up to those levels it would be impossible without things like the tax deduction.”

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, 26 million small businesses would have seen their tax rate double without the Working Families Tax Cuts.

“93 percent of America’s employees are from small businesses, so we want to make sure that we’re out here supporting the work they do through our work in Washington.” Rep. Houchin said. 

Rep. Houchin’s visit to Legit Printing was in partnership with the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), which is the leading U.S. nonprofit association advocating for small and independent business owners.
