(RUSHVILLE, Ind.) – The new Rushville head football coach says the community support and the opportunity to build a winning culture is what attracted him to the program.
James Eck began coaching at 18-years-old and has spent the past five seasons at Class 4A Saint Joseph High School in South Bend.
He most recently worked as the varsity tight ends coach as well as the head freshman coach.
It wasn’t easy for the St. Joseph grad to leave his alma mater but feels Rushville is the perfect destination.
“To be able to build a program that gets the community excited is an opportunity that excites me tremendously. There is also talent coming back on both sides of the ball, and especially strong senior and sophomore classes that I believe we can build around,” Eck said.
Eck says his long-term goal is to have the Lions compete for conference championships every year.
“In the short term, my goal is to build a winning culture and for us to play football the right way. Ultimately, if we do those things, we can get the program where everyone wants it to be,” he shared.
He expects all of his players to give it their all on the field while representing the program in an upstanding way both in the classroom and the community.
Eck mentioned, "We will play hard, with passion and aggression, week in and week out. Community support is going to be critical in getting us where we want to be.”
The new football coach recently sat down for an extended interview with Rushville Consolidated High School and you can read that by clicking here.
