(VEVAY, Ind.) - Switzerland County High School honored a graduate who played in the major leagues on Saturday.
Larry Ray was a 1976 alum who was drafted by the Houston Astros in 1979.
He made his major league debut in 1982 and his first at–bat was a pinch hit for MLB Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan.
Ray earned a base hit and an RBI against the Los Angeles Dodgers on September 17, 1982.
He passed away expectedly in 2023.
The baseball team holds an annual ‘Larry Ray Day’ where they honor Switzerland County’s only major league baseball player.
The team also wore throwback Astros-themed jerseys as they hosted Brownstown Central today.
