Three airlifted after crash near Letts on Tuesday morning

Police: Vehicle was passing semi when it collided with another car

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Three people were lifeline after a two-vehicle crash near Letts on Tuesday morning. 


The accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. on State Road 3 near County Road 400 South. 


Decatur County deputies say a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Samantha Lyn Blessing, of Greenburg, was traveling northbound when it attempted to pass a semi. 


Investigators say that is when it collided with a southbound vehicle head-on. 


Blessing had four passengers in the car that were all under the age of 9-years-old. 


She and a 9-year-old were both were taken by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital. 


The other vehicle was driven by a 16-year-old and that person was also flown to the hospital. 


The remaining passengers were transported by ambulance to Decatur County Memorial Hospital.  


The current condition of any occupant is not known.

  

State Rd. 3 was closed for approximately three and one-half hours for investigation and  clean up.  


Agencies that assisted the sheriff’s office were Greensburg, Letts, Burney and Westport Fire Departments along with the St. Paul Marshal, Greensburg Police, Decatur County CIT Team, Indiana State Police and Decatur County Dispatch.


FIRST REPORT:

(GREENSURG, Ind.) - State Road 3 near Letts is closed due to a serious crash Tuesday morning.


The crash has led to the road closure between 300 South and 500 South. There is no estimated time that the road will be open as of yet. 


The accident has required at least two ambulances and at least one medical helicopter. 


This is a developing situation and more information will be provided when made available.
