Sheriff: Man shot to death, one arrested after manhunt in Dillsboro

(DILLSBORO, Ind.) – The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office is providing additional information regarding the death investigation that led to a manhunt in Dillsboro this morning.

Deputies received a call around 5:15 a.m. of a report of gunshots near Campo Verde Drive and Gilday Drive in Dillsboro.

“The caller also reported a blue vehicle heading east on U.S. 50 and one of the occupants did not look good,” Sheriff Shane McHenry said.

Another witness also called to report a blue SUV on Texas Gas Road with two people in the vehicle and one was lying down in the seat, according to police.

A deputy found the vehicle, which had Kentucky license plates, stopped on Hueseman Road.

The deputy said that he had a brief interaction with the driver before the car sped away.

The vehicle was found crashed a short time later on Hueseman Road and police initiated a search.

During the search, a male was found shot to death on Texas Gas Road and Hueseman Road. McHenry added that the male appeared to have been shot several times.

“Law Enforcement conducted an extensive search of the area for the driver of the vehicle including the use of a helicopter, drones and K9 teams,” McHenry said.

The suspect was allegedly found in a creek around 11:10 a.m. and was taken into custody.

“The investigation is ongoing at this time but there is no longer any danger to the public,” the sheriff added.

The identity of the deceased male and the suspect have not been released. McHenry added that more information will be made public after formal charges are filed.
