(AURORA, Ind.) – The South Dearborn football team and their supporters held a unique annual tradition on Thursday night.
The team holds a bonfire before the first sectional game every year.
Coach Rand Ballart began this tradition more than a decade ago and it was going strong until the COVID year.
They were forced to cancel it, however, decided to bring it back last year.
“It’s something to bring the community together and get some excitement leading into Sectionals,” Ballart said.
Team members, parents and fans gathered to light a huge stack of pallets that were donated by Professional Pallets in Greendale.
The Hogan Township Volunteer Fire Department was also in attendance, in case there were any issues with the fire.
Later in the evening, the fire department used the fire for a training exercise for their cadets.
Ballart expressed his appreciation to Professional Pallets, the Hogan Fire Department and the others who make the event possible.
South Dearborn will host Rushville in the opening round of Sectionals Friday night.
