(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A new initiative has been created to honor members of the South Decatur community who have passed away.

The Cougar Legacy Fund has been launched with the goal of creating a scenic walking path at the elementary school.

It comes after beloved South Decatur Elementary assistant principal Jacob Rader unexpectedly passed away this summer.

Rader had served in the role for six years and was deeply admired by both students as well as fellow staff members.

“Whether he was helping solve a problem, building something for an event, dressing up to bring smiles to students’ faces, cheering on our staff, or simply taking time to love and support every child who walked through our doors, he gave his whole heart to our school community,” South Decatur Elementary principal Nicole Stone said.

The Cougar Legacy Fund is hoping to raise $120,000 and you can learn more, or donate to the project, by clicking here.

“Through the Cougar Legacy Fund, we strive to carry forward the vision of those who inspired us by fostering physical and mental well-being, academics, connection, and a sense of belonging for generations to come,” stated the Cougar Legacy Fund.
