(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Two rivals will kick off their football seasons with a special tribute to a beloved educator.
Jake Rader served as South Decatur Elementary’s assistant principal for six years and was deeply admired by students and colleagues.
The 41-year-old unexpectedly passed away after a motorcycle crash in early June.
His commitment to strong relationships and building a positive school environment led to him making a profound impact at the elementary school.
“Whether he was helping solve a problem, building something for an event, dressing up to bring smiles to students’ faces, cheering on our staff, or simply taking time to love and support every child who walked through our doors, he gave his whole heart to our school community,” South Decatur Elementary principal Nicole Stone said.
On Friday, Rader will be honored during a pregame ceremony before the North Decatur and South Decatur game.
Both football teams and students from both schools will gather on the field for a moment of silence as well as a ceremony.
The game will take place at 7 p.m. at South Decatur High School.
