(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A South Decatur Elementary teacher is being recognized as Napoleon State Bank’s Teacher of the Month.
Jennifer Chastain is a Title 1 teacher and Dyslexia Specialist who has worked at the school for the past 21 years.
“Jennifer has brought remarkable leadership and vision to our Title I program - demonstrating that thoughtfully designed, evidence-based interventions truly change student outcomes,” the nominator said.
Chastain has focused on research and science to ensure every Title 1 student gets the support and instruction they deserve.
“Her vision extends beyond isolated interventions; she systematically aligns all efforts to clear, measurable goals, creating a cohesive, purposeful approach to literacy instruction schoolwide,” the nominator said.
The teacher was also instrumental in launching a summer program to ensure students continue reading development when school isn't in session.
She was nominated by her peers and Napoleon State Bank CEO Joe Moorman surprised her in the classroom on Friday.
“Everything that you are doing is well deserved and we wanted to congratulate you for your dedication to these students,” Moorman said.
Chastain says she is honored by the reward but didn’t get into the profession for accolades.
“We have great kids and this is a great school and wonderful community,” she said.
