(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – A South Ripley mom and photographer received a big surprise plus a lot of free pizza on Tuesday night.
Beth Schmaltz was named the LaRosa’s Game Changers MVP for the month of January. The award recognizes people across the Tri-State who contribute to high school sports in ways that go beyond the game.
Shortly before the varsity game, a LaRosa’s representative surprised Schmaltz when he asked her to come onto the floor.
“We received a nomination for her that described all the wonderful things she does. She takes pictures of all the athletes and gives the kids the photos which are memories they’ll have forever,” said LaRosa’s Chief People Officer Steve Browne.
Schmaltz received a plaque along with a month of free LaRosa’s pizza.
She and her husband are both South Ripley graduates and they have two kids who attend the school.
Beth can often be found on the sidelines of numerous sporting events taking photos and supporting the Raiders.
The award, which she was nominated for, came as a big surprise and Schmaltz added that she prefers to be behind the camera.
“I did not expected this but I appreciate it very much. I always enjoy seeing the students post the photos I send them, Schmaltz said.
“South Ripley is really just one big family and I am glad that my family gets to be part of it," she added.
