(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – The Southeastern Indiana YMCA will soon begin a renovation project in the Gray Gym area.
The back half of the gym will be transformed into an expanded wellness area that will feature turf, more free weights and plate-loaded equipment. It will be connected to the former racquetball court through a new walkthrough.
The project is part of a multi-year plan to expand the facility to serve the growing needs of the community.
“It’s not about our Y getting bigger just to flex—it’s about meeting the needs of the community, and we’re uniquely capable of delivering on that,” said Southeastern Indiana YMCA CEO Tara Britton.
She added that the front half of the Gray Gym will keep two Pickleball courts and a half-court for basketball, and Thursday Night Volleyball will move to the Wood Gym.
In addition, the current Wellness Center will receive a refresh with new flooring, additional treadmills, reorganized circuit equipment, and a welcoming beginner-friendly space.
The project is expected to begin on December 1 with a completion date of late January. It is being constructed by Bruns & Gutzwiller Construction and Pulskamp’s Flooring.
“This is just the beginning. As we look to the future, we’ll continue to reimagine our Y to strengthen the community and serve every generation for years to come,” Britton added.
