St. Elizabeth gives AED's to 7 police agencies in Dearborn, Ohio counties

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – Police officers throughout Dearborn and Ohio County will now have another life-saving device in their cruisers.

St. Elizabeth Healthcare and Project Heart Restart is providing 48 automated external defibrillators (AED’s) that will be placed in the police cars of seven different agencies.

AED’s will be provided to 10 Aurora police cars, 5 Greendale police cars, 14 Lawrenceburg police cars, 2 Moores Hill cruisers, 12 Ohio County deputies, 2 St. Leon police cars and 3 West Harrison cruisers.

“As an ICU nurse I have seen people go from having a non-life threatening rhythm to being shocked and being brought back. To know we have this technology outside of the hospital and inside police cars that can be there in a moment’s notice, that is amazing,” said Angela Roberts with St. Elizabeth Dearborn.

This initiative is made possible by Project Heart Restart which was created through the Rotary Club of Cincinnati.

Josh Vogel is involved with Project Heart Restart and has seen how fast a fatal cardiac arrest can occur.

Years ago, Josh was a teenager and accidently pitched a baseball that hit his friend, Justin Saconne in the chest. It triggered a cardiac arrest and Justin passed away on the field.

Josh and Justin’s dad, Rocky, have played a pivotal role in raising over $1 million for 600 AED’s in Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Indiana

Project Heart Restart was also the organization that partnered with Margaret Mary Health to give police officers in Franklin and Ripley counties AED’s earlier this year.

The St. Elizabeth deployment was made possible by the Lawrenceburg Lions Club, Bright Lions Club, Civista Charitable Foundation, Ohio County Community Foundation, REMC Round Up Grant and Lawrenceburg Main Street.

The police officers received the AED’s and were trained on them on Wednesday.
