(SUNMAN, Ind.) - It was the end of an era on Friday as St. Nicholas Catholic Church demolished the school gym.
Community members called it ‘bittersweet’ as the gym has been the site of wedding receptions, church events and basketball games for the past 97 years.
The demolition is part of the St. Nicholas Heritage Project which includes two phases.
This is the second phase which includes a new gym, cafeteria, performing arts stage, multi-purpose rooms and other features.
