(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Local students had the opportunity to learn about baking through Summer of STREAM hosted by Genesis: Pathways to Success.
The Behind Baking summer camp combined nutrition education, teamwork, and hands-on learning in the kitchen.
It began with a visit from registered dietician Kathy Cooley who spoke about the importance of healthy eating habits and making informed food choices.
Each day of camp began with a group discussion where students learned about the day's objectives, recipes, baking techniques, and the science behind the foods they would be creating.
Campers then worked together in teams to apply those lessons through hands-on baking experiences.
Some items the students made included treats, cupcakes, homemade pretzels and different breads.
"I've had so much fun this week. I didn't realize how much goes into baking. It was fun learning new skills and getting to taste what we made, especially the cinnamon bread,” said St. Louis eighth grader Nolan Wanstrath.
Genesis: Pathways to Success still has A Summer of STREAM camp opportunities available for students of all ages.
