(RISING SUN, Ind.) – We shared a story this morning about the impact Rising Sun Superintendent Branden Roeder is making on the school corporation.
Roeder not only leads the school operations but is also well-known by the students and staff for going above-and-beyond.
One student was shown our story and wanted to share his experiences with the superintendent!
Roeder holds a morning basketball workout for older elementary students and middle schoolers nearly everyday.
Duke Perfect is only in third grade and had been hearing about the basketball practices.
“My fourth grade friends would always talk about it and I wanted to go because I wanted to be part of a team,” Perfect said.
Perfect admits that he felt left out and was sad about not being able to be at those morning sessions.
“But one day Mr. Roeder invited me to the workout and that night I couldn’t stop smiling and was telling my mom all about it,” he recalled.
Although he is the youngest on the court, the third grader now gets the opportunity to play basketball with the older students.
“Mr. Roeder really impacted my life because he opened the door for me to be part of this team. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t like basketball as much as I do now,” he said.

Perfect knows he isn’t the only student that the superintendent is helping, as Roeder can often be found giving high fives to students through the hallways.
“He is always complimenting us and saying nice things to all the students. Even on picture day he compliments us if we are looking nice. He is such a nice person,” Perfect said.
Roeder also helps staff members by sometimes working in the cafeteria or even by driving a school bus! Read that story here.
