Police: Car struck by bike while waiting on tractor

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- Two people were flown to the hospital after a crash near Sandusky on Sunday.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. on State Road 3 near East County Road 570 North.

Crash investigators say a vehicle was stopped on the highway waiting for a tractor to turn into a driveway.

"As she was preparing to accelerate after the tractor turned, she felt a motorcycle, also traveling north bound, hit the rear of her passenger car," the Decatur County Sheriff's Department said.

The motorcycle was driven by 25-year-old John Austin Jacobi, of Rushville, and a 27-year-old North Vernon woman was a passenger on the bike.

"Witnesses to the crash stated the motorcycle was laid down on its side, just prior to impact with the passenger car," investigators added.

Two Statflight helicopters were dispatched with one landing at North Decatur High School and the other landing at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital.

Jacobi and his female passenger were flown to an Indianapolis hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"The Decatur County Sheriff’s Department wants to take this opportunity to remind all drivers that this is the time of year when farm machinery will be sharing our roadways, so all drivers need to be aware and drive accordingly for everyone’s safety," Sheriff Bill Meyerrose said.
