(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Two St. Mary’s Catholic School students honored their classmate while making a positive difference for sick children.
Zoe Wade and Lilli Welsh are eighth graders who were tasked with creating a community service project.
It made them think of Travis Wenning, who was a first grader that passed away from cancer in 2018.
“Travis was one of our classmates and he made an impact on all of us and will always be remembered,” Wade said.
The two girls decided to use an archery tournament as a way to raise funds in his memory.
The entry fees for archery teams, along with the admissions and concessions, went toward toys and financial donations to Riley Children’s Hospital.
The tournament took place at St. Mary’s School last weekend and there were 17 teams that participated.
“Every team stepped up and donated. We were very grateful for the coaches, archers and parents for all their generous donations,” Lilli told The 812.
Zoe and Lilli were able to collect 170 toys and nearly $5,000 for Riley Children’s Hospital.
“Everyone donated so much and were very interested in our project. Travis was a very good friend of mine and it meant so much to do this in his memory," Lilli said.
She added, "I know he had the biggest grin on his face last weekend watching over us."

Both girls say they are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support for their project.
Zoe said, “I want people to know that we are very thankful for all the donations that people gave. Also thank you to all the parents, teachers, coaches, and other volunteers and teams who made this possible.”
