(VEVAY, Ind.) – The Town of Vevay has removed some historic trees that are along Main Street.
The removal is due to the trees causing significant damage to the Swiss Inn's foundation, creating safety concerns for pedestrians, and impacting the 10-inch water main that serves our town.
INDOT also required the removal of the trees due to the upcoming Main Street rehabilitation project, which will include upgraded roads, improved storm drainage and new sidewalks.
Town officials are aware that some community members are saddened by the decision, however the removal was deemed necessary.
“We understand that downtown may feel bare right now, and change is never easy. We ask for your patience and understanding as we work toward the larger vision for our community. While it is difficult to say goodbye to something familiar, these improvements are investments in the safety, functionality, and future of Vevay,” the Town of Vevay stated.
