Volunteer firefighters fight blaze in New Marion area

(NEW MARION, Ind.) – A Ripley County family has been displaced after a house fire on Saturday morning.

It occurred around 9:30 a.m. on U.S. 421 near County Road 800 South near Cross Plains.

Volunteer firefighters were on the scene for several hours and that portion of U.S. 421 was closed for nearly two hours as well.

The New Marion Volunteer Fire Department was assisted by Versailles, Osgood and Friendship volunteer firefighters.

“Every firefighter who responded today is a volunteer, giving their time to serve and protect their communities. We are grateful for every one of them,” New Marion VFD stated.

The Aurora Fire Department even stopped by to give cases of water to the first responders who were fighting the fire.

Officials said the American Red Cross was called to assist the family as well.

From firefighters and EMS to law enforcement, dispatchers, rehab crews, the Red Cross…[this is] Neighbors helping neighbors. Volunteers helping volunteers. Departments helping departments. This is what community looks like,” the NEW Marion VFD added.
