(PEPPERTOWN, Ind.) – Multiple volunteer fire departments responded to a farming-related emergency on a property in the Peppertown area on Sunday.
Around 11:40 a.m., the Oldenburg Eagle Fire Department, Metamora Volunteer Fire Department and Batesville EMS rushed to Wilderness Drive which is between State Road 229 and Pipe Creek Road.
A farmer had become pinned between a tractor and a tree and required extrication.
Oldenburg firefighters provided extrication equipment while Metamora firefighters utilized their department's ATV to reach the patient in the rough terrain.
After freeing the man from being trapped, a medical helicopter transported the patient to a Cincinnati hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“It was one of those freak accidents that can just happen, and it’s a testament to the volunteer fire departments in our area and the importance of supporting them,” said Oldenburg Fire Chief Ben Nobbe.
Metamora Fire Chief Blake Bryant said this incident was a good example of how neighboring agencies work together when every second counts.
Bryant added, “Franklin County deputies didn’t have to be there as well but they remained on the scene and were a big help during the incident.”
