(RISING SUN, Ind.) – A ceremony to honor African Americans who have unmarked graves in Ohio County will be held Tuesday.
Rising Sun resident Derrick Davis has organized “The Walk for 200 Souls” and the public is welcome to attend.
It takes place at 5 p.m. and attendees will walk together from the Rising Sun Library to Cedar Hedge and Union cemeteries.
The ceremonial walk takes place as the Ohio County Historical Society is working to identify some unmarked graves in those cemeteries from around the time of the Underground Railroad.
“I really want to get the story out there for those who don’t have a voice anymore. I think this is a significant project and I look forward to having more people join the cause,” Davis said.
The Rising Sun Library is located at 503 Second Street.
