Archdiocese determines 'bleeding host' in Morris was not miracle

Lab tests were conducted

(MORRIS, Ind.) – The Archdiocese of Indianapolis says the ‘bleeding host’ at St. Anthony’s Church in Morris was not a miracle.

Lab tests were conducted after a red substance was found on the host earlier this year.

A biomedical analysis revealed the presence of bacteria, the church said.

The host had fallen out of a Mass kit used at the parish, and when it was discovered, red spots were present.

Following church policy, the host was submitted for professional, biochemical analysis at a laboratory. The results indicate the presence of fungus and three different species of bacteria, all of which are commonly found on human hands.

Throughout the history of the Catholic Church, there have been documented miracles and apparitions, and each has been thoroughly and carefully reviewed.
