Batesville Fire to purchase new engine, retire 40-year-old fire truck

New engine boosts technology and safety advancements

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Batesville Fire & Rescue is planning to buy a new fire engine in the coming years.

It will allow the department to retire Engine 48 which has served as a frontline apparatus in Batesville for 40 years.

The department plans to buy a Pierce Enforcer PUC which will bring several benefits including upgraded technology, safety enhancements and extra storage space.

"One of the most notable improvements aside from overall safety, is its increased storage capacity for equipment, which will allow the department to consolidate fire apparatus,"  said Batesville firefighter Spencer Broughton. "This consolidation will result in a reduction of maintenance expenses associated with operating multiple apparatus."

It will also carry 1,000 gallons of water which is an increase of 250 gallons over the department’s current first line engines.

“This additional water capacity will significantly enhance the department's firefighting capabilities, ensuring they are better equipped, especially in our non-hydranted coverage area,” he added.

The new fire truck will take approximately three to four years to build.
