(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A first grader now has her artwork on display as a mural in downtown Batesville!

Kyra Hernandez was selected for the latest round of the “Art on Main” program led by the Batesville Community Education Foundation.

Batesville Primary students were challenged to design a mural that reflects the theme of “Bulldog Futures Start Here.”

Kyra designed her artwork with a crayon and it depicts a student contemplating a variety of career choices. The ballerina tutu is at the top because that's what she hopes to do when she grows up.

Her design was chosen through a blind selection process and will be on display at the intersection of George and Main streets for the next few months.

BCEF’s Art on Main program highlights artwork from students at all four Batesville Schools on a rotating basis.

The program is made possible by Rowland Graphics who donates their time to install every mural as well as building owner Nick Maple who provides the location.

“As a Bulldog Ready community-connected learning sponsor, BCEF recognizes that our school corporation is working hard to show students how what they learn in the classroom applies to their future careers,” explained BCEF board member Ryan Holcomb, who also serves as one of the Art on Main program coordinators.  “Since every grade level will have an in-depth guaranteed experience this year surrounding career connections, we thought this year’s theme was appropriate.”
