Batesville gas station attendant helps police find endangered person

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A gas station employee in Batesville helped authorities find an endangered missing person.
Paula Smith was working at the Shell Gas Station when she noticed a person walk in and out of the store several times, and appeared to be confused.
She called the Batesville Police Department and the officers who arrived also had concerns about the individual.
Police later discovered that the person had been listed as missing from Ohio. The individual had been missing for at least one day.
The officers were able to get the individual reconnected with family in order to get the treatment they need.
The police department is recognizing Smith with the the ‘Batesville Citizen Award’ for her actions.
“Paula’s observations and willingness to call the Batesville Police Department assisted in locating someone’s loved one who was in grave need. Paula’s proactive mindset, with the utmost care and concern for an individual’s well-being, without a doubt, saved a life that day,” the department stated.
They added, “Paula displayed the epitome of what we should strive for as citizens of Batesville.”
