(AURORA, Ind.) –Three Aurora first responders were recognized on Wednesday night for their lifesaving actions during an apartment fire this summer.
Aurora police officer Adam Burd, along with Aurora EMT’s Devin Bowling and Trenton Martin, were the first to arrive at a duplex fire on Lincoln Street on August 25.
They arrived to discover that a person was still inside of the burning structure.
It turned out to be an unresponsive man who had collapsed and was blocking the door.
The three responders made it their mission to save him and they were able to safely open the door and pull him to safety a few moments later.
The victim was rushed to a hospital before recovering from his injuries.
Burd, Bowling and Martin were each awarded with the Indiana State Medal of Valor on Wednesday night.
The award is given to first responders from across the state who go above and beyond and risk their own safety to help someone else.
The award was given by Indiana State Fire Marshal Stephen Jones with Aurora Mayor Patrick Schwing and Aurora Fire Chief Jeff Lane in attendance.
Fire Chief Jeff Lane released body cam video of the incident earlier this fall. Here is what these three responders did when every moment mattered:
