(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – An elementary school counselor is continuing to make a difference beyond her school.
Claire Porter works at Batesville Primary School and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Registered Art Therapist, and Licensed School Counselor.
She has a passion for helping children develop emotional resilience, particularly those who struggle with self-regulation.
Earlier this year, she published 12 guided journals and workbooks that promote emotional well-being for children.
Porter has now written two children's books that are designed to help kids build character and develop healthy emotional regulation skills.
The first book titled 'The 7 Attributes to Become Your Best Self' tells the story of a classroom that learns seven powerful traits, which follows along with Batesville's Bulldog Ready Initiative. You can purchase the book by clicking here.
She has also released ‘The Magic Balloon: A Journey to Calm’ which took nearly a year to complete.

“This book is so special to me because I poured my heart and soul into every page. I worked closely with a professional children’s book illustrator from Ukraine and carefully crafted each page to bring the story to life,” Porter said.
The story follows a young girl who uses her magical balloon and the help of a friendly cloud named to float through her feelings.
“Rooted in calming strategies I use every day as a counselor, this book helps children understand their emotions and discover simple, effective ways to self-soothe,” Porter added.

Porter will be hosting an author visit for the ‘The Magic Balloon’ at the Batesville Memorial Public Library at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 15.
“My hope is that both books give children and their families tools to grow emotionally strong and confident. I want kids to know it’s okay to have big feelings. These stories reflect my passion for helping children grow not only academically, but also emotionally, equipping them with the skills they need to thrive in school and beyond,” Porter added.
